The Radiology Manager is responsible for the daily operations, leadership, and oversight of the Medical Imaging Department. This position ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered imaging services while maintaining compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. The Radiology Manager supervises technical and support staff, oversees departmental workflow, manages staffing and budgeting, develops policies and procedures, and collaborates with physicians and hospital leadership to achieve operational and strategic goals. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Leadership & Operations Manage the daily operations of all assigned imaging modalities, including Diagnostic Radiology, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Mammography, Interventional Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and related services. Provide leadership, supervision, and support to technologists, supervisors, imaging assistants, and support staff. Ensure efficient patient flow and timely completion of imaging studies. Monitor departmental performance metrics, productivity, patient satisfaction, turnaround times, and quality indicators. Develop and implement initiatives to improve operational efficiency and patient access. Participate in strategic planning and departmental growth initiatives. Staff Management Recruit, interview, hire, train, mentor, and evaluate imaging personnel. Conduct employee performance evaluations and competency assessments. Manage staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage and efficient utilization of resources. Address employee relations issues in collaboration with Human Resources. Foster a positive work environment focused on teamwork, accountability, and professional development. Ensure completion of required education, certifications, and annual competencies. Quality & Regulatory Compliance Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, Department of Health (DOH), CMS, ACR, HIPAA, OSHA, and hospital policies. Lead readiness efforts for regulatory inspections, surveys, and accreditation reviews. Monitor quality assurance and quality control programs across imaging services. Investigate and address patient safety events, incident reports, and compliance concerns. Develop, review, and update departmental policies and procedures. Assist in preparing and managing departmental budgets. Monitor labor expenses, productivity, overtime utilization, and supply costs. Manage inventory, equipment purchases, and vendor relationships. Evaluate capital equipment needs and participate in purchasing decisions. Identify opportunities for cost savings while maintaining quality patient care. Equipment & Technology Oversee maintenance and performance of imaging equipment. Coordinate preventive maintenance, repairs, and service agreements. Collaborate with Information Technology and PACS administrators regarding imaging systems, RIS, PACS, EMR integration, and workflow improvements. Support implementation of new technologies, equipment, and imaging programs. Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, nursing departments, and hospital leadership to support patient care needs. Resolve patient, physician, and staff concerns professionally and effectively. Promote excellent customer service and patient satisfaction throughout the department. Qualifications Education Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Radiologic Sciences, Business Administration, or related field preferred. Master's Degree preferred. Experience Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in diagnostic imaging. Minimum of three (3) years of leadership, supervisory, or management experience in a healthcare setting. Experience with regulatory compliance, budgeting, staffing, and quality management required. Certifications/Licensure Current ARRT Certification required. Current New York State Radiologic Technologist License required (where applicable). Advanced modality certification (CT, MRI, Mammography, Interventional Radiology, or similar) preferred. BLS certification required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong leadership and team-building skills. Comprehensive knowledge of radiology operations and imaging workflows. Knowledge of regulatory standards including Joint Commission, ACR, CMS, DOH, OSHA, and HIPAA. Effective problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency with PACS, RIS, EPIC/EMR systems, and Microsoft Office applications. Ability to analyze data and utilize metrics to improve operational performance. Strong organizational and project management skills.
